As the aging population in the United States steadily grows, the need for compassionate support and effective communication with older adults becomes increasingly vital. As well as an understanding about the complex and diverse process of growing old and the structure of care provided to older adults in the aging process. This course is tailored for students interested in volunteering with Tech Savvy Seniors, yet it warmly welcomes all individuals eager to deepen their understanding of the elder population and contribute meaningfully to their well-being. With the aging population projected to nearly double by 2060, there is an urgent need for individuals equipped with the skills and empathy to support older adults effectively. By enrolling in this course, participants not only gain essential knowledge about the aging process but also develop practical skills to address the unique needs of seniors.
The first general part of this course discusses the general processing of aging, along with the institutions, organizations, and policies that determine how our society and established groups must care for older adults. In addition revealing the complexity of aging and how communities should equip themselves to better support aging populations, as aging is a universal process for every person.
The second part of the course discusses a relatively new resource for seniors to utilize in their aging lifestyle, technology. It teaches students how they can teach and encourage older adults to use technology in their daily lives to stay organized, enhance their independence, stay connected to combat social isolation, and much more. As volunteers with Tech Savvy Seniors or advocates for elder well-being, students will play a pivotal role in bridging the digital divide and fostering meaningful connections within their communities.
