Throughout the fall semester, we will be discussing rock and roll music. But, alas, it will involve more than the simple-minded "This rocks!" or "Zeppelin rules!" No, we will explore the origins of rock and roll music, some of its more significant contributors (composers, musicians, critics, etc.), learn how to critically listen to rock and roll as well as write critically about it. We will discuss rock and roll's impact on the culture and the history of the United States (specifically) and the world in general. Along the way I hope that we have informed and interesting discussions not only about rock music, but about the politics, economics, culture, and aesthetics of rock.
