The schedule presented on the previous page is tentative, and is therefore subject to change. You will note that in several labs, the class has been divided into two groups and only one group will attend during particular weeks. This allows a more thorough investigation by each student and a more intensive lab experience so that a more complete data set may be obtained for every student and a larger sample set obtained for analysis for purposes of the lab reports.
Paper and report format and requirements will be discussed in the context of the individual labs. Due dates are presented above, and assignments will NOT be accepted late. This is NOT negotiable. All papers must be on white, unlined paper (double-spaced). Although the specifics of each paper or report will be detailed individually, in general each must use a minimum of 10 recent (since 1990), primary sources (non-textbook, non-web-based).
"Lab Competencies" are a series of mandatory exercises that necessitate individual meetings with the instructor that will be used to demonstrate and assure student mastery of certain basic and ancillary skills that are developed in this course. Each competency is worth a small number of points and can be repeated until mastery is demonstrated. This skills include, but are not limited to, many of the following examples:
-creation and interpretation of standard curves with a Spec 20 -use of Microsoft Excel® for data analysis and graphing -reference database utilization -taking pulse, blood pressure, and ECG; interpretation of ECG and spirometry traces
